Mothers Day Tip: Melt mom’s hart with a handmade cookie bouquet for Mothers day. Prepare a basic cookie dough & cut out letters & shapes, insert lolly sticks & bake. Ice & tie together with a pretty ribbon.
Party Ideas:
- You can find birthday balloons, birthday banners, birthday invitations, birthday party favors and other paraphernalia that relates to all of these themes and more.
- Whether you choose a first birthday party theme in Care Bears or Baby Einstein, you may be concerned about fun activities for all the parents who attend. If you are looking for activities for adults at your child’s first birthday party, here are some ideas: A game called “Our Baby Can…” Divide the adults into two groups – the “can” and the “can’t” groups. When you call out a task such as “use the potty” or “eat with a spoon,” your guests move to the side of the room they think is the correct answer based on whether they believe your baby can or can’t do that task.
- Find someone to take pictures, especially if you plan to be involved running the activity. This way you can make sure everyone is having fun, you included without trying to capture the moment. Later, you can look at the pictures. A digital camera is great if you have one, but you can still get pictures developed in an hour.
- Chairs. How many should I have? There are two schools of thought here. The first; the less places to sit, the more people will mingle with each other. This can be great for office type parties when networking is important. The second; at a “typical party,” you may find that if it looks like a chair, it is a chair. Do you want all your end tables, arms of couches, and counter tops – yes counter tops to become chairs? If you ever waited in line at your favourite theme park, you know what I mean. Find some chairs. Your partygoers will be glad to bring a few if you ask. Ask the neighbours, your church or club. If you can’t borrow – rent.
- When you first decide to have a party, create a checklist. Write down everything you want for your party: food ideas, games, supplies needed, people to invite. Tape your list to the refrigerator or write it in a notebook. When you think of something new (hey, I want to put ribbons on the ceiling), add it. When you complete something, like sending out the invitations (a check for each person), check it off. This is a great way to keep your party on track.
- A tour of the neighborhood fire station is great with smaller groups. Be sure to call in advance to accommodate their busy schedule. Don’t be surprised if you get to the station house and find the fire truck and firemen off to a fire! Of course if you get there when the siren is wailing, the kids are going to love it! Yeah, you will too!
- Party confetti is a fun way to decorate a room. Sprinkle colorful confetti shaped in the theme of your party on table tops. Confetti can be bought in the shape of stars, musical instruments, ages, baby items, hearts, diplomas, balloons … the possibilities are endless. There are also confetti products on the market to add more fun to your party decorations. For example, there is party confetti spray, confetti cannons, confetti shooters shaped like champagne bottles, confetti party poppers and more. These products are designed to explode with confetti at your prompting. One word of caution about confetti as party decorations — pick-up can be a nightmare unless you have a good vacuum!
- Don’t go looking around on the day of the party for all the supplies you need to play games or activities. If some games need setting up, either you or someone else can handle this the day before or before the party starts. If you are having a number of activities, try to plan so that there is not too much down time before you start the next activity. The guests will find something else to do.
- Start collecting basic supplies now so you can concentrate on invitations and food for your next party. Watch for sales on these essentials: Ice bucket and tongs, place cards, a cutlery stand, tablecloths, serving platters, cute olive forks and cheese ball servers, bar glasses and wine glasses, extra cutlery, candles, chip-and-dip bowls, a punch bowl, and cloth or paper napkins. Purchase plain, white dinnerware that you can dress up or down for any party. Store all these essentials together to make party-planning a breeze.
- Finger foods are just the right size for toddler’s little hands and tummy. They make it easier for your child to feed herself and, when presented in the right way, provide a fun approach to mealtimes. Ants on a Log: Fill the hollow in celery sticks with peanut butter, cream cheese or hummus and then sprinkle with raisins, seeds or nuts.
- Little Kids – especially 1 year olds – don’t eat a lot and will be distracted by the variety of what you’ll have on offer. So expect a lot of half-eaten food items. Raid your local home industry for a selection of bite sixed foods. Remember to add bite size fresh fruit and veggies.
- Need some other snack ideas for parties? Fill bowls, cupcake holders and toy buckets with cherry tomatoes, cheese cubes, lollipops, Otees cereal, melon and pawpaw balls and round flings.
- Everybody likes to hear a thank you. Everybody wants to be appreciated. Say that thank you right away – and make sure its not phony. Make sure you follow-up with a phone call or thank you card in the next few days. No, not in one week or one month. Now don’t you feel good?
- Take time out when you tuck your child in the night before the party to express your expectations. Make sure you talk up the party. How great it is going to be. How big they have grown. Wow! 5 years old already! Practically married and out on their own! This is when you lay down the rules. Don’t go in here. Don’t do that. Of course you are going to do this with love in your heart and a smile on your face. Yes, and again on the day of the party when they did what you asked them not to!
- When planning a young child’s birthday party that includes games, always plan more games than you think you will need. Overplanning is an invaluable resource; actual play time for some games is much faster than instructions often state. It is better to have more games planned than you need rather than to have too few activities for the chldren to enjoy.
- It’s always a good idea to have your child help as much as possible with the planning and choosing of items for their party. Hopefully, they will not change their minds after you bought the items. The child learns how much work goes into having a party. If you create a less stressful party, the actual party will go on without a hitch. Also, if the child is going to be involved in planning the party, they can be involved in cleaning it up! Fair is fair.
- This is a great way to distribute prizes for games or even favours. What you’ll need is balloons and small party favours. Before you blow up your balloons, hide small favors inside…like a sticker, etc. When the party’s over tell everyone to take a balloon and sit on it. Another option can be to put a piece of paper with a number on it and put it in the balloon. Each number corresponds to a pre-wrapped prize (you should wrap and number prizes before party and place on table.
